Marvel Party Suit Masks

More of the Halloween stuff I worked on this past year has made it to Party City's shelves. I did the artwork for four 'Party Suit' aka 'Morph' masks. They're stretchy over the head masks, sort of like stockings. With some accessories, such as gloves and printed t-shirts with faux muscles (I did some of those as well) it could make for an effective and relatively inexpensive costume. Just be careful where you walk! (It's not that easy to see out of these things).

The art for the Hulk mask was painted entirely in Photoshop, with some very small and low res style guide images as my reference. I also had to paint them flattened out, anticipating where certain parts of the face would fall once it was actually worn and wrapped around a head. The only template I was given was the main outline shape - I had to determine on my own where the mouth, eyes, nose, etc would fall once actually worn. I winged it, but for the most part, I think it works.

The four characters I worked on were The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Spider-Man, the latter two created in Illustrator.

Joker's Wild Skeleton Playing Cards

I illustrated two playing cards for the 'Joker's Wild Skeleton' costume, out now for the Fall 2014 Halloween season at Party City.

I inked these traditionally, using a Fine Tip pen over a color copy with the pencils printed lightly.

Gort and Robocop Sketchcards

A couple of sketch cards from 2012 I never posted before.  At top is Gort, the robot from the 1951 sci-fi classic, The Day The Earth Stood Still and below, Robocop.

Howling Wolf Ninja Costume

Here's another boys Halloween costume I worked on for Party City. It's 'Howling Wolf Ninja.' (I think there were about five name changes before that's the one they settled on). I did the vector illustrations for the chest and head piece (as well as the spec sheet for the factory!). Here's link to buy one for those interested:

Ice Crushers/Bloody Face Off Halloween Costume

Some of the Halloween costumes I worked on last year for Party City are finally making their way into stores. Here's a screen print I illustrated (created as vector art in Adobe Illustrator) for the boys costume 'Bloody Face Off.' It's printed on a T-shirt which is part of the costume. I also designed the mask, which was sculpted by someone in Hong Kong based off of this illustration as well as a side view with specs that I provided them.

Here's a link to buy one for those interested:

ART DROP DAY is here!

Today (Tuesday, Sept 2nd 2014) is World Art Drop Day, started by artist extraordinaire Jake Parker!

People the world over will be leaving free art for anyone to find.

I'll be leaving three different pieces of original art in various locations in Hackensack, NJ and Elmsford, NY. The first drop has been made, earlier this morning in Hackensack.

Here's the first sketch and the location hint...if it hasn't been snatched up yet, and you're in the area, try and find it! Good luck! Two more to go.
