Hellboy

I've been drawing Hellboy a lot lately...he's definitely one of the most interpreted characters in recent comic memory...I guess 'cause he's just fun to draw and there's no really 'right' way to draw him; he's open to interpretation. Here are a few different takes on him, including a quick color version of one of the pencil drawings.

COOL (or should i say HOT?) sketches of Hellboy ya got here!

i've been meaning to draw him for the longest time. one of my fave comic chracters. love the anatomy on the 2,6 and 7th ones. great sense of muscular structure and movement. i like all the details and shading in the 2nd one especially. the color version's nice but i think something got lost in the color translation.

just being nitpicky but is it me or does his head look a bit big for his body in these pics?? i think it just looks that way cuz of his massive neck which just slopes down into the shoulders which is sorta how he's drawn anyway.

the "big head" comment was more in reference to the 6th hellboy, not so much the 2nd

and obviously the big cartoony head on that last one was intentional. haha!

Thanks, Jason...you're right, something is missing from the color ver...it was really a quickie...without much forethought...using the pencils as a base...I think once I started darkening the pencils it took somethign away. As for his head being too big..hmmm..might be a tad large in that 2nd one...but there are other things that bug me more...I'm still not sure about that left arm coming out from behind him....am I missing too much information for you to believe his bicep/tricept and shoudler are back there? Is the forearm too long? besides that, I don't there's enough movement in most of these...especially that bottom one (the real big cartoony head one)...I want to inject more movement but it doesn't always flow from the pencil...gotta just keep working at it. That last one (cartoony one), btw, didn't have any underlying pencil sketching...just drew it as you see it, sorta letting the line go where it would..I guess that's why it's so stiff!

justin-
these hellboys rock more than Hanson...
to many this may not seem like a compliment,
but I know you'll consider that high praise...
and coming from me, it's always HIGH praise.....

Thanks, Glennitto! That is HIGH praise indeed..there's not many in this world that rock harder than those Hanson boys, and if my Hellboy drawings should be deemed worthy enough of that honor, it's a compliment I shall take!

Some good drawings; I like #3,4 and 5 from the top the best.
