As I mentioned at lunch the other day, I really like this painting. I think it's a big improvement over the first one...not that that one isn't kool. I especially like how with this one the eye really pops, color-wise. Keep it up.
Thanks, Jason. It wasn't too hard once I put my mind to it. I went to that demo with Dave DeVries and that pushed me to go ahead with the first painting. I had actually done the drawing before I went to the demo as I wasn't sure if we'd be doing any art there or not. Having the drawing already done got the hard part out of the way and I just took out my paints and went at it. I had bought some gouache paints a couple of years ago with the intention of actually uh, USING them, lol, but never really did much. I didn't have all the colors I needed from that art shop purchase, so had to go back to some 15 year old tubes, which, not surprisingly had mostly dried up. I was still able, though, to cut a blue tube in half and get to the semi-malleable paint in the middle. Since these were done with gouache, it was just a small bucket of water to use with them, so not too messy at all. (I used the top half of a blank CD container as my 'bucket'.) That and a couple of paper towels and I was set! I also had one of those disposable pallette pads to put my paints on. I do rememeber the days of oils, though, and, yeh, those can certainly get messy.
Wow, dude, you did all this in your sketchbook??? Nice!!! Good job, dude, I love your monster series. You've got the makings of a nice published sketchbook going on here. Man, I haven't painted anything in years!! Or sketched anything in months! man...

I thought once I saw a post from you that meant you had posted something new on your blog! Take 30 min out of your week and draw something! It'll make you feel better!

was it hard to get back into the swing of painting. the clean up afterwards had to suck!! that's probably the thing i miss the least about painting.
